Here’s giving you a step by step DIY instruction manual on building a wood fired oven:
Step 1. Get a fabulous team in place – CIIE team. Check.
Step 2. Pre-order all your material and ordering more than you require will do some good – that’s what got us stuck a little way down during the building- we ran out of our clay-sand mixture and fire bricks!
Step 3. Build the base with some fire bricks.
Step 4. Use a mixture of clay and sand as a replacement to cement to glue the bricks together
Step 5. To create height and a sturdy foundation, we decided to alternate two layers of fire bricks with a stone slate (that weighed a tonne!)
Step 6. Add another double layer of fire bricks and another slate and we’ve got a good base (A combination of all the manual work and the look of the oven itself will make you feel a little hungry for chocolate cake
Step 7. With a perimeter of fire bricks we add glass bottles for insulation and surround each bottle with a mix of our clay and sand mixture
Step 8. Add a super smooth layer of more clay and sand (and we’ve got a 2 feet tall chocolate cake!)
Step 9. The final layer of fire bricks atop which the pizza will be baked.
Step 10. Buy a hemispherical pot to be used as a mould for the dome of the oven
Step 11. Run out of bricks and realize that more bricks need to be ordered
Step 12. Group photo followed by real and delicious chocolate cake!!
