Last Saturday evening, CIIE launched IdeaPad – a shared workspace and co-working community and Cafe Turquoise. The event saw a turnout of over 100 people which included students and faculty from IIMA, independent workers, entrepreneurs and more.
Prof. Rakesh Basant, the chairperson of CIIE, opened the event with introduction to CIIE and IdeaPad and invited Prof. Ashish Nanda – director of IIMA to inaugurate the event.
Prof. Nanda talked about institute’s focus on nurturing entrepreneurship within the campus. He informed the audience about how CIIE has been cultivating an ecosystem of entrepreneurship and will incubate and strengthen the entrepreneurial ideas that will emerge from this platform.
After this, Ashwin Joshi from CIIE gave the audience a brief idea about what is IdeaPad, how it operates, the benefits and how to apply.
It was followed by two IIMA alumni, Aman Mehra and Akshay Kumar, sharing their entrepreneurial journey. While Akshay talked about harnessing talent to develop new ideas to propel into the industry, Aman said that there has never been a better time to be an entrepreneur.
That was the end of the intellectual session for the event and the start of an exciting evening.
Bake-your-pizza in the wood fired oven and make-your-own-Barbecue in the earthen pot along with free food from Cafe Turquoise were the food highlights of the evening. There was a Photo Booth arranged in one part of the venue, because, who doesn’t get pictures clicked, eh? And since the event was for entrepreneurs, of course we had whacky entrepreneurial-themed props for the photobooth (go to http://goo.gl/8ZDUaw to check out the pictures from the event). There was an Idea Wall, where anyone could write their idea and also read and rate other’s ideas with a star – the idea with the highest number of stars was featured on our Facebook page and also the recipient of a surprise gift.
The fun-part of the evening started with stand-up comedian Manan Desai from The Comedy Factory who entertained the audience with his witty jokes on Gujarat, Gujaratis and their love for food, business and English.
No event is complete without music. The musical evening began with first year PGDM students of IIMA, Ching and Krunal (from IIMA Music Club) which was followed by IIM Lucknow alumni Varun and Jimmy jamming on stage with classic English and Hindi songs. Again, two other students from IIMA music club, Manish and Aditya, performed on their favorite songs.
DipZip band performed next and enthralled the audience with alternative rock music. That was followed by a surprise gig from CIIE by Harshad – the rapper and Niraj – a balloon artist. Both of them wowed the audience with their magical skills. The evening was concluded with ‘The Sunshine Grooves’ band leaving the crowd wanting for more.
